6 Best Road Trips From Los Angeles
Here at Four Wheel Campers, our two favorite words are “road trip!”
That’s where our company started, families getting on the road, packing up their slide in campers, and driving into the sunset on a new adventure.
Los Angeles’ geographic location makes it a perfect place to start an epic adventure. Whether looking for a long weekend away or a month-long itinerary that checks all the boxes, here is our list of best road trips from Los Angeles:

- Nevada & Arizona
If you are looking for a fun loop trip that includes both cities and a touch of nature, the Nevada & Arizona loop is the perfect road trip from Los Angeles. Begin your trip heading northeast on I-15 to Las Vegas. From there, head south into Arizona, stopping by the Grand Canyon along your way. From there, you can continue south to hit Sedona & Phoenix before looping back around on I-10 to head back home.
- Baja Peninsula
Road-tripping down the Baja Peninsula is long and not for the faint of heart, but it is truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. It takes 22 hours to drive from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, and that doesn’t include the scenic route! But those who go often come back with incredible stories of locals, beaches, and great surf.
- Southern Utah
Driving from Los Angeles to Zion National Park only takes about seven hours. Southern Utah is home to the ‘Big 5,’ which is a set of five national parks located within a small radius in Southern Utah. Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, Arches National Park, and Canyonlands National Park can all be covered and completed in a week. If that doesn’t make for an epic 7-day road trip from Los Angeles, I’m not sure what does!
- Pacific Coast Highway
Perhaps the most classic road trip route in California, Pacific Coast Highway is must for many reasons. Follow the coastal Highway 1 north to San Francisco to enjoy the perfect long weekend filled with incredible scenery, such as Morro Bay, Big Creek Bridge, Shark Fin Cove, and more. It is the perfect road trip to hop in your car, turn up the music, and go wherever the wind takes you.
- Sierra Nevada Loop
If National Parks and grand scenery are on your road-trip list, the Sierra Nevada loop is the perfect itinerary. This loop road trip includes traveling north on the west side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, then cutting through while visiting Yosemite National Park before looping around and heading back south on the eastern side of the range. Ideal stops on this trip include Sequoia National Park, Yosemite National Park, Mammoth Lakes, Lone Pine, and endless additional options for hiking, camping, and exploring one of America’s best mountain ranges.
- Joshua Tree National Park
One of the most unique national parks in the country is located just a couple of hours away from Los Angeles. If you want to escape the city and explore the great outdoors but only have a weekend, Joshua Tree National park is a perfect choice. The area offers an abundance of hikes, great rock climbing, and fantastic accommodation opportunities. From Los Angeles, it’s only four hours round-trip to explore the area.
- Western Loop
If a mega road trip is on your list, boy, do we have the perfect itinerary for you! This is considered the ‘road trip of all road trips,’ knocking out some of the beautiful and scenic states in the west, including Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona. Because of the long distances and how much there is to see along the route, we don’t recommend any less than four weeks to make it all happen. Nearly a dozen National Parks, six states, and a road trip that will never be forgotten.
