Commonly Asked Questions About Four Wheel Campers
Purchasing a Four Wheel Camper is a big deal, and with big purchases come important questions! Whether new to finding our Four Wheel Family or a long-time watcher, getting ready to purchase a camper, we’re breaking down some of our most common questions to help guide the way.
Where is the closest truck camper showroom to me?
Our warehouse is located in Woodland, California; however, we have showrooms and dealers across the country and into Canada! Use our Find a Dealer tool to find the closest showroom to you.
How do I match trucks to camper models?
We have a tool built directly into our website where you can build & customize your dream camper based on your truck make & model. Start here on our truck selector tool, enter the make, model, and bed size of your truck, and see our model options for you!

What is the payload capacity for most truck models?
Payload capacity is an important detail to understand before placing your order for a truck camper. You should do your research and verify payload before ordering a camper.
The good news? Most trucks are already well-suited to carry a Four Wheel Camper without modifications. For added confidence, upgrades like airbags or suspension enhancements can be installed to provide extra support and peace of mind.

To get you started, here are some of the most popular truck models and their general payload capacities:

- Ford F-150: Average payload capacity 1,705 – 3,325lbs
- Toyota Tundra: Average payload capacity 1,600 – 1,940lbs
- GMC Sierra 1500: Average payload capacity 1,520 – 2,280lbs

You say that your campers are manufactured in the U.S. How does that work?
Every Four Wheel Camper is manufactured at our headquarters in Woodland, California. From welding the frame to sewing the interior cushions, the camper itself is crafted start to finish on site. While we don’t manufacture components such as refrigerators, furnaces, or lithium batteries, we carefully integrate these high-quality appliances into the build. This way, you get a camper that combines the best available technology with the craftsmanship of our in-house team.
Our hands-on approach ensures both quality and customization, giving you confidence that your camper is built to meet your needs.

How durable is the pop-top portion of the camper?
The pop-top side liner (the soft-sided material that raises with the roof) has a five year warranty, but most campers are used for decades before the liner ever needs replacing. It’s made from marine-grade material designed to resist degradation from sunlight and moisture, ensuring long-lasting durability. With just a few simple maintenance steps, you can keep your vinyl looking like new for years to come – like popping the roof after trips to let it dry, spot-cleaning with Dawn dish soap, and applying a Marine & Recreation Aerospace Protectant once a year.
What is your current wait time for campers?
Our build time is only 8 weeks! If you’re picking up your camper in Woodland, you can be on the road in as little as 9 weeks! For those working with one of our dealers outside of Woodland, they’ll coordinate convenient shipping options to get your camper to you quickly once it’s complete.

What is your lightest truck camper?
Our most lightweight and minimalist camper is our Project M truck topper, with a base weight of just 390lbs. You can’t get much lighter than that! Instead of removing the tailgate like our slide-in campers, this model sits on the top of your truck bed, and is bolted down to your truck bed rails to be held in place. It’s perfect for minimalist travelers, weekend warriors, or those that don’t want to lose functionality of their truck bed!
Where are your most popular add-on options?
When it comes to feature upgrades, some of the most popular choices among FWC owners include ceiling fans, the quilted thermal pack, rooftop solar, camper jacks, and the Truma furnace. Many owners recommend upgrading from one fan to two for the added airflow, while the quilted thermal layer is valued not only for insulation but also as a blackout option during bright summer mornings. The furnace is known for being efficient, quiet, and consistent. The upgrades that make the biggest difference depend on how you use your camper!
What makes our truck campers different from our competitors?
Since 1972, Four Wheel Campers has been leading the way in the lightweight truck camper industry—building on more than five decades of knowledge and expertise that our customers rely on. Today, we offer the widest selection of pop-up models, from minimalistic toppers to heavy-duty flatbed adventure rigs. Every design is engineered with a low center of gravity for the best off-road experience, so you can take your adventures farther with confidence. There’s truly no “one size fits all” – we help you find the camper that’s right for your lifestyle. With dealer support across the country and a passionate community unlike any other, you’ll always feel connected. Our owners don’t just camp – they gather at our annual Rally, trade tips and tricks online, and even plan their own adventures together.

Do Four Wheel Campers have toilets?
Toilets are not standard features, however built-in cassette options can be added in our Fleet, Hawk, and Grandby model campers with the front dinette floor plan, as well as in any flatbed. The cassette toilet stores waste in an unseen cassette cartridge underneath the toilet, which is then accessed via an external door.
How much is a deposit for a Four Wheel Camper? Do you offer payment plans?
To secure your Four Wheel Camper, we require a 15% deposit at the time of your order. This will guarantee your timeline and place in the build queue. And yes, we offer financing options! We partner with ELITE to make financing your truck camper easy as ever. If you’d like to apply for financing, follow the steps listed on this page.
