Top Customized Mods for Your Four Wheel Camper
Whether you’re in the process of building your new pop up truck camper or looking to make upgrades to your current one, upgrading and adding modifications to your setup can make all the difference.
This is especially true for owners, who often add and tweak their gear and setup as their life and needs on the road evolve. Some choose to DIY their own upgrades, while others pop by our warehouse to get customized options added to their rig by our trusted team.
Here are the top custom modifications Four Wheel Camper owners are making in 2025:

Top Customized Mods for Your Four Wheel Camper
1. Lithium Battery & Power Management Upgrades
As more adventurers look to go fully off-grid, lithium power systems are becoming essential. Upgrading to a high-capacity lithium battery bank with a Victron or Redarc power management system allows for longer stays without shore power, faster charging, and more reliable performance in extreme temperatures. Our lithium battery options were first introduced in December 2022, so if you have an older camper, this is an upgrade well worth the investment!
Solar is another big power upgrade FWC owners are making in 2025. Our solar packages include the following options:
Solar Panel -130 Watt Portable Panel
Solar Panel – 160W Roof Mounted Panel (2x 80 Panels)
Solar Panel – 250W Roof Mounted Panel (2x 125 Panels)
Solar Panel – 500W Roof Mounted Panel (4x 125 Panels)
Solar Panel – 250W Roof Mounted Panel for Manager 30 (2x 125 Panels)
You can reach out to schedule a power system upgrade with our Woodland, California service team on our Parts/Service page or call 530-419-2426.

2. Smart Storage Solutions
Organization is everything when living in a compact space. Custom pull-out drawers, under-seat or bed storage conversions, or even magnetic spice racks are trending among truck camper owners. These mods keep your gear secure and accessible, even on bumpy trails.
Under the bed storage solutions are now offered in certain setups of our slide in and flatbed camper options, so don’t overlook that while building out your truck camper! Our brand new CampOut model is also a fantastic solution for those looking to maximize storage and space in their truck camper.
3. Upgraded Suspension & All-Terrain Tires
Handling rough terrain with confidence starts at ground level. Many Four Wheel Camper owners opt for upgraded suspension systems, such as Old Man Emu or Falcon shocks, and durable all-terrain tires like BFGoodrich KO2s or Falken Wildpeaks for improved ride quality and stability.
You’ll also want to check your truck’s weight load capacity to ensure you have all the upgrades needed to handle the additional weight of your new truck camper.

4. Exterior Gear Mounting
For those traveling with extra gear—bikes, kayaks, recovery equipment, or additional fuel—exterior mounting solutions are key. Roof racks, exterior gear tracks, rear tire carriers, and swing-out storage boxes are all popular add-ons that increase hauling capacity without eating into interior space. We offer a number of gear mounting solutions as part of our customizable camper builds.
5. Comfort Customizations
Full-time travelers and weekend warriors alike are upgrading interiors for comfort. Think custom cushions, a refrigerator, our quilted interior thermal layer, blackout shades, or even marine-style composting toilets. These simple truck camper modifications improve daily livability and support longer trips. You’d be surprised how much a few minor upgrades can increase comfort on the road!

6. Hot Water & Shower Installations
While Four Wheel Campers come adventure-ready, many owners are adding external shower kits or on-demand hot water systems. This is a game-changer for those wanting creature comforts in the wild. Adding these upgrades to your pop-up camper is most easily integrated with 8ft bed slide-in campers or flatbed campers, where the extra space means more comfort modifications!
7. WiFi & Signal Boosters
Staying connected in remote areas is increasingly important. In 2025, many overlanders are integrating Starlink mounts, WeBoost signal boosters, and 12V WiFi routers for reliable connectivity in camp or on the road. If you’re a FWC owner who plans to spend a hefty amount of time in remote locations with the goal of working or staying connected, you’ll need a trusted solution. Starlink most recently came out with a Roam plan, making it a perfect addition to your truck camper adventures!
