Two-Week California Road Trip Itinerary
California is a top road trip destination for obvious reasons, and it’s the perfect place to take your Four Wheel Camper, especially if you are getting it installed right here in Woodland, CA! Whether you are looking for the ultimate trip to kick off your new rig or a seasoned traveler looking for the next big adventure, here is our ultimate two-week itinerary through the Golden State.

Two-Week California Road Trip Itinerary
Day 1-2: San Francisco
If you’ve never visited San Francisco before, it’s worth a day or two to explore some of its famous landmarks like Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf, or the Golden Gate Bridge. If the city isn’t your thing, head north to Bodega Dunes or go hiking through Muir Woods to see the towering redwoods and visit the charming town of Sausalito.
Where to stay: Kirby Cove Campground or Bodega Dunes Campground

Day 3-5: Napa Valley & Sonoma
From San Francisco, drive north to Napa Valley and Sonoma for a couple of relaxing days in California’s wine country. Visit some of the world’s best wineries, enjoy decadent meals at farm-to-table restaurants, and take in the stunning vineyard views. Extend your stay by exploring the nearby Russian River Valley.
Where to stay: River Bend Resort
Day 6-8: Lake Tahoe
Next, head east across the state to Lake Tahoe. You could spend weeks here exploring, but a few nights will provide the perfect taste of eastern California. In summer, go kayaking or paddleboarding on the crystal-clear waters or hit the hiking trails around Emerald Bay for panoramic views. If you visit in winter, spend a couple of days skiing or snowboarding at one of the many world-class resorts around the lake. Be sure to spend one of your days driving the Lake Tahoe Scenic Byway in your truck camper.
Where to stay: Goose Meadow Campground or Eagle Point Campground

Day 9-11: Yosemite National Park
From Lake Tahoe, drive south to the iconic Yosemite National Park. With three full days here, you’ll have plenty of time to explore Yosemite’s granite peaks, waterfalls, and ancient sequoias. Spend a day hiking the Mist Trail to Vernal and Nevada Falls, one of the park’s most popular hikes. On the second day, drive to Glacier Point for some of the best views of the valley, and explore Mariposa Grove to see the massive sequoias. On your final day, enjoy the valley floor, where you can picnic while gazing at El Capitan and Half Dome.
If you plan to camp with your truck camper in the park, be sure to check reservation requirements. Yosemite National Park requires advance camping permits and reservations during the summer and many weekends & holidays. You can view reservation requirements here.
Where to stay: Yosemite Creek Campground or Upper Pines Campground
Day 12-14: Big Sur & Monterey
A road trip through California isn’t complete without driving Highway 1, better known as the Pacific Coast Highway. It’s one of the most scenic drives in the country and a must to enjoy in your Four Wheel Camper. Take your time stopping at landmarks like McWay Falls, Bixby Creek Bridge, Shark Fin Beach, and Point Lobos State Reserve for hikes and photo ops. Spend a couple of nights at one of the many stunning campgrounds or dispersed camping areas along the coast.
Where to stay: Kirk Creek Campground
